In this project, we are assigned to create a low-tech multimedia tool to replace the more common hi-tech, and expensive, multimedia tool. With a budget of twenty dollars, we came up with an idea, making our unique lighting . In this blog, we are going to give you a step-by-step instructions on how do we make our own lamp.

        Materials:                                        Tools:
                                             7 watt Light bulb x 1                        Cutter x 1
                                             40 watt Light bulb x 1                      Ruler x 2
                                             Extension core x 1                           Scissors x 1
                                             Iron wire x 1
                                             Snap button x 1
                                             Paper board x 1
                                             Wrap paper x 1
                                             Tape x 1

Step1:
Using ruler and pen, make an octagon the size you desire, make sure all sides are equal with a 1cm border around the perimeter.  Divide the octagon into 8 equal sections. Then cut out the template.

Step 2:
Make a small circle with the same center point. Divide each section in half and cut out every other section which use the  real lines and dotted lines to help you to cut the shape. Make sure not to cut the border that was previously made, also do not cut through the center circle. Cut the real lines and fold follow the dotted lines, and fold it to the shape shown in picture.

Step 3:
In the center, using the cutter to make a small hole.

Step 4:
Put the snap button in the middle, and make sure put it in the right order. There are two parts of a snap button, left side of button (shows on the  picture) goes from the bottom through the center hole and the right side of button goes on top of the bottom part of button. They are perfectly match to each other.

 Step 5:
Put the tape around the border using the scissors to cut off the excess part, and then rip off the tape .

Step 6:
Cut out the stars  on the wrap paper using the cutter, the purpose of doing this is to let the light pass through  the hole. After that, cut the any width you want and put the wrap paper surround the wind wheel you did in step 5.

Step 7:
Use wire around the light base turning two laps, and then twist wire to make it  can clamp holder support. Let it can resist the lamp-chimney groove. Next, conect the light bulb (7 watt) with the extension core and then connect to the plug.

Step 8:
With the special design of the top of the lamp , the lamp would rotate due to the heat from the light-bulb. Put the light-chimney on and wait for 10 to 20 minutes. However, it did not rotate. So we need to do some changes to the lam.

Step 9:
Repeat from step 1 to step 5. Cut a rectangle, long is the perimeter of octagon plus 1 cm, width is lamp-chimney height (can adjust the height you wants). At each coner using the cutter gentlely cut a line, it helps to fold the shape. Finally connect the top and the lamp-chimney with the tape.

Step 10:
Next, take a patterned sheet of paper and using pen to draw some shapes then use scissors to cut out shapes. Keep it in a place.

Step 11:
Using wire to make a lamp holder, make sure the lamp holder can resist the lamp-chimney groove. Ater that , glue the paper to the border of the lamp-chimney.  Next, put the lamp holder on top of light bulb (40 watt).  Make sure lamp holder against the lamp-chimney groove,  and then connect to the plug.

Let's enjoy this rotating lamp. The rotating light creats a fun and soothing atmosphere in any room.

Testing:
we performed a few tests which include:
1:Durability Test
2:Efficiency Test
3:Survey

Result:
-In the first test , we turned on the lamp and let it run for 20 hours. Make sure it did not get over heat, and the result turned out pretty good. What we mostly concerned was the stand of the light bulb as it is touching it directly. However, after testing it couple times, it didn't change its shape.
- For the efficiency, we want to make sure the lamp-chimney is not too thick and let enough light to pass through
-As but not least , we did a survey on 20 people , ask them to give us a rating of 1 to 10 on the style of our lamp. And we got a 7 .

Problems:
1. The reason why  lamp-chimney is no rotating here, because the lamp-chimney is made by  plastic, it changed shape due to the heat. This is not the security material to use in here. As we can see the shapes in step 8.

2.

Compare the light bulbs, small one with 7 watt and the big one with 40 watt.  Small light bulb fail to use because it has less watt and less light compare to the big light bulb.

3.
When we made the stand for the light-bulb , we tried different ways. On the left, we made a thin one that fits perfectly but after different testing , it couldn't stand the heat and the weight, changed it shape eventually.

Conclusion

With a budget of twenty dollars, we successfully make our unique lamp through different testing and failure on our product , we found different ways to improve and evaluate our lamp. Eventually , we created a very low-price, useful and unique tool for a household environment.
